EARTHDIAL for CYPRUS
|

| As well as constructing an Earthdial for my home in England, I decided to make another Earthdial for Cyprus, which is where we frequently go for our holidays. | |||||||||||||||

Cyprus is an island in the Eastern Mediterrean, close to the south coast of Turkey |

I used the normal Earthdial specifications for this location, Paphos,
on the west coast of Cyprus. The co-ordinates are: |

In order to check whether my Cyprus Earthdial was correctly set up, bearing in mind that I live in England , at a latitude of 52 degrees 46 minutes North, I had to angle the dial by approx.18 degrees from the horizontal.( that is, 52 degrees 46 minutes less 34 degrees 45 minutes). The photo on the right shows how I was able to adjust it. |

So here, on the left, is the Cyprus Earthdial, photographed at 10.35 a.m.British Summer Time (BST) on 25th May. It shows that the dial is pretty accurate and I look forward to taking it with me to Paphos on our summer vacations! You notice that the Earthdial has seven date curves, rather than the standard three curves for a conventional Earthdial and also that in top centre, below the "EARTH 2004" motto, is the name of the city of Paphos and its co-ordinates, in the Greek language. |
