The Gustavianum was erected in the 1620s to be the main
building of Scandinavia's oldest university, and served as such through
most of the 19th century. The Gustavianum, named after King Gustav II
Adolf (1594-1632), was designed by Caspar van Panten. The splendid cupola.on
the roof incorporates a sundial in the form of a globe.
In this photo, you can see how the time is
marked by the change from brightness into shadow on the globe, at approximately
11 o'clock.
