This must have been the reading in the sundial of the Kourion Agora, on 21 July 365, when a severe Earthquake devastated the entire city of Kourion and the sundial most probably, went out of use. 14. Line E in Cairo, with gnomon length 0.1673 m. corresponds to 21 August, 2002, 60 days after the Great Summer Solstice. In Severan times, around year 200 CE, that would be August 23.
15. Those who frequented and worked in the Kourion Agora in around 9 a.m. could read this very shadow cast in the sundial, when the volcano near Pompeii went off on August 24, 79 C.E. (August 20 2002).
