 Français When it's a Sun compass ! This photograph was kindly sent to me by Francois Pineau of Tours in France. It is of a Sun Compass used as a navigation aid by the American Army in the North African desert during the Second World War. It is basically an analemmatic sundial. but, whereas we normally know the location and orientation of a sundial and we use it to determine the time, in this case, we know the location and the time and we use it to determine a direction we want to follow.
