Recently, a BBC2 programme series entitled "Secret of the Ancients" explored the possible way in which the Viking sailed from Scandanivia to the Shetlands, Faroes, Iceland, Greenland and eventually North America. The programme showed how last year a copy of a Viking ship and the crew navigated from Bergen in Norway to Shetland, using a "sun compass", based on one which was found in ancient ruins in Greenland.
